A Study of the Grief Process for Health Professionals Training Seminar
Abstract grief is a little like watching for falling rocks. You can watch for it, but it is going to happen anyway. Everyone comes to grief at one point or another. A mother dies, a sister is divorced, or a child is diagnosed with leukemia.
Grief is an inevitable part of the life cycle and, as health care professionals, we observe it all too often in others. Sometimes, however, we don't recognize grief when it happens to us and sometimes we think we are immune to its effects.
As caregivers we may have no idea how to react, what to say or do when we come face to face with a grief stricken patient. We want to be supportive but we are fearful of not "doing the right thing".
This course looks at the grief process and explores what to look for in our patients and in ourselves.
