HazCom: Get Up to Speed On Material Safety Data Sheets; Reduce Risks And Increase Compliance Training Seminar
Employers are required to have hazard communication programs to ensure that employees are informed about the dangers of chemicals used in the workplace. This is done primarily through training programs, container labels, and material safety data sheets (MSDSs).
You're required to both train employees on the use of MSDSs and conduct a chemical inventory to ensure MSDSs are readily accessible for employees whose jobs involve handling and storing chemicals.
Training can be a daunting task when you are unsure of the meaning of words, or simply overwhelmed by the number of collected MSDSs. In addition, you must maintain access to current and previous MSDSs based on the chemicals used or stored in your facility. This process can be overwhelming and make your hazcom program ineffective-and leave you at risk of violations. In fact, violations of the hazcom requirement consistently make the OSHA "Top 10" list.
But it doesn't need to be so complicated. By understanding a few key terms, and knowing how to retain, access, and use MSDSs, you can effectively train your employees, create a user-friendly hazcom program, and stay in compliance.
You and your colleagues will learn:- An overview of the hazcom requirements-and where employers most frequently fall short
- How to retrieve and maintain electronic MSDS copies
- How to best organize and manage your paper copies
- Steps to conduct effective, thorough chemical inventories
- How to quickly reference needed information both during everyday work and during an emergency
- Key terms found on an MSDS that help you easily read the content and apply safe practices
- Multi-employer requirements relating to MSDSs
- How MSDSs can help with chemical labeling
