Following IS95's worldwide success, its evolution to bigger and better technologies was inevitable. The cdm2000 family of standards represents this evolution. While cdmaone is certainly data-capable, its voice-centric roots are hard to hide. Designed specifically for data, EVDo (aka HDR) offers a rich set of capabilities, optimized for fast downlink data transfers with system throughput optimization as the major metric of performance. Building on your knowledge of the 1xRTT networks, you'll learn all the additional capabilities and complexities that EVDo brings to the network design, operation, and optimization process. This will help you interact more effectively with the vendors as well as design better EVDo networks. Being conceptually simple, EVDo offers up only a handful of new ideas that must be mastered. However, it relegates a number of implementation issues to the vendor's discretion. This course will allow you ask the right questions about the vendor-specific implementation details, which in turn will enable you to make smarter design decisions.

Those experienced with 1xRTT who wish to study 1xEVDO. The standard presentation of this course assumes a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related subject along with an appropriate background in communications engineering.

- Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Techniques and CDMA-based Technologies (CDMA, 2 days)
- 1xRTT: Network Architecture, Operation, and Design (1XRTT, 2 days)
- Knowledge of the wireless network structure and operation, RF propagation and fading issues, and link budget analysis.
- At least two years experience in the design and optimization of a wireless network using any major technology.
