Virgina Workers' Compensation Series and Exam ( 3 hours)

In the Virginia Workers' Compensation series, you will learn all about the Virginia Workers' Compensation system, important forms, deadlines, filing requirements, applicable defenses, statutes of limitations, guidelines for compensability, and ways to defeat non-compensable claims. You will also learn advanced Workers' Compensation topics such and permanent total disability, death claims and occupational diseases. This course is self paced and includes over three hours of pre-recorded visual and audio instruction.

Virginia Workers' Compensation Insurance System Overview
Learn the ins and outs of how insurance companies operate in Virginia. This module covers the technical aspects of insurance in Virginia including how insurance underwriters determine the premium employers pay and what factors drive up the cost of a workers' compensation insurance policy


Module 1: General Overview of Virginia Workers' Compensation
Covered are the concepts specific to Virginia Workers' Compensation claims, including what constitutes a specific injury by accident, arising out of and in course of employment, general overview of employer defenses, deadlines, and filing requirements. The different types of disability benefits and medical benefits are also described.

Module 2: Employer Defenses
In this module, the specific employer defenses that are most commonly used are thoroughly analyzed, including willful misconduct, refusal to cooperate with medical treatment, refusal of vocation rehabilitation, and statutes of limitations. Violations of safety regulations and intoxication are covered in great detail. You will learn when to file notice of specific defenses, and which defenses apply in different scenarios.

Legal Module 3: Advanced Virginia Workers' Compensation
In this module, you will learn about advanced issues in Virginia including occupational diseases, carpal tunnel syndrome, permanent total disability (disability beyond 500 weeks of compensation), death benefits, issues involving Medicare approval of settlements, and psychiatric claims. The intricate process of Medicare approval and set asides is addressed, as well as problems in Virginia concerning awards which are still open at the Commission and have not been terminated. Plus, you will be provided with a "decision tree" to assist you in claims that are still open with large amounts of compensation outstanding.

This live or recorded Webinar provides updated information on new Virginia cases and relevant legislative changes. You can choose to attend the annual live session or view a recorded version at a more convenient date throughout the year to keep up to date.


Exam
One exam is included in the Virginia Workers' Compensation Series. It consists of 50 questions with a 90 minute time period.
You must first take the Virginia Workers' Compensation Series training modules before taking this exam. You will have one attempt to pass this exam. The pass mark is 75%
