STATEMENT OF NEED No pediatric patient should have to endure pain. But the discomfort many children feel because of injury, illness, or medical intervention may be missed because of inadequate assessment techniques. It is critical that healthcare providers be able to evaluate pain in children and provide the means to alleviate it. Healthcare providers need to be aware of differences in the approach to working with pediatric patients compared to adult patients with respect to pain.
