Course Description
To enable students to become skilled in the practical application of
enterprise architecture using ABACUS® software, an enterprise
architecture modeling and analysis tool.
This course uses TOGAF 9.1 as a framework, not a topic. By exploring a
case study, the course helps students develop a solid target
architecture and roadmap that address strategic and tactical
requirements of a set of stakeholders. Conexiam’s Navigate is energized
by Avolution’s ABACUS. Conexiam’s Navigate is used to provide a
consistent, comprehensive toolkit; all relevant elements are included
within a pre-populated ABACUS model. In this course, we energize our
enterprise architecture activity by using formal models and analytics to
deeply understand the interactions between the components of the
enterprise.
Our case study is provided in a populated set of formal models. The
student will use the formal models to analyze the case; we will not be
creating formal models.
TOGAF 9.1 is used to serve and support our activity. When it comes to
producing detailed work products, we use Conexiam’s Navigate toolkit.
The Navigate toolkit is a straightforward customization of TOGAF. It
provides a complete set of tools that fleshes out the generic elements
of TOGAF 9.1. With Navigate, EA practitioners can perform three key
functions:
Describe a target architecture that fulfills a strategy, and identify capability gaps.
Build a roadmap that delivers the changes necessary to achieve the strategy.
Establish the guidelines that will ensure projects realize the strategy.
In order to maximize the capability of an enterprise architecture
team, formal modeling and analysis of facts is required. Conexiam’s
enterprise architecture team uses Avolution’s ABACUS as a standard
enterprise architecture modeling and analysis tool.
Key Learning Objectives
In this 4-day course, you will learn practical techniques and tools
in Navigate. ABACUS is used to highlight the power of analytics in
understanding the interactions between the components of the enterprise.
This course makes extensive use of case study to create actual
enterprise architecture deliverables, culminating in a target
architecture and architecture roadmap. You will learn how these
deliverables are consumed as case progresses, and how to use Navigate to
build key capabilities and trace architecture decisions.
Conexiam will license the Navigate tools used in the course to those
who take the “EA with TOGAF & Navigate using ABACUS” course. During
the course, each student will have access to a copy of Avolution’s
ABACUS.
Duration
Included in the Course
- 4 days of instruction, with emphasis on a case study
- Binder with all courseware and exercise materials
- Electronic copy of Open Group TOGAF Part 1 & Part 2 Study Guide
- Electronic copy of sample Open Group TOGAF certification exams
- Electronic copy of all Navigate templates and public architecture tools used in the course
Prerequisites
Some EA experience is required. Course is fast-paced and requires
that we move quickly through the concepts and activities. It is
beneficial to be comfortable with new software. The case study will be
worked in groups.
Who Should Attend
- Enterprise Architects
- Business Leaders
- Business Architects
- Business Analysts
Alternative Courses
If you would like to learn how to use the world’s leading EA
framework with a consistent set of tools without the distraction of a
modelling tool you may prefer EA with TOGAF & Navigate. In this
course we use classic paper templates and whiteboard analysis to drive
out linkages and inferences. As with all informal modelling techniques,
we will be free to add, extend and skip. We will carry the burden of
following the linkages manually.
