10 Supervisor Slip Ups That Lead to FMLA Lawsuits Training Seminar
Supervisors who don't know the law are ticking time bombs, lawsuits waiting to happen. And no law is trickier than the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA). In this session, employment law attorney Harold Goldner, Esq., will discuss the 10 common but avoidable supervisor slip-ups that provoke lawsuits and costly judgments against companies. This idea-packed session will be example-driven. It is targeted to supervisors and we encourage HR executives to invite as many managers and supervisors as they'd like at no extra charge. There will be ample opportunity for questions and answers. At the end of this session, supervisors will be able to:
- Explain the instances where "adverse actions" taken against employees on FMLA leave will most likely cause legal problems
- Describe the degree to which they are responsible for informing employees of their FMLA rights.
- Differentiate which "minor" and "major" ailments are considered "serious" under the FMLA
- Explain the correct and the incorrect way to respond to employees when they request FMLA leave
- Effectively handle requests for FMLA intermittent leave
- Explain the distinction between "foreseeable" and "unforeseeable" leave and describe what the employee's responsibility is in each case
- Calculate how much leave an employee deserves during a given year
- Avoid confusing FMLA leave and ADA accommodation
- Avoid mistakes regarding disclosure of employees' private medical information.
