COBRA Traps: Ten Common Problems and How to Address Them--Lessons for Employers, Administrators, and Advisors Training Seminar

Everyone who has COBRA administration duties knows that there are dozens of ways to make mistakes and that any COBRA lawsuit will almost certainly involve high-dollar claims for medical expenses and statutory penalties (of up to $110 per day).

In this 90-minute web seminar, our experts will use recent COBRA lawsuits and other sources to identify ten common problem areas and will suggest simple steps to tighten up COBRA administration and reduce the chances of being bitten.

Here are some of the topics we'll cover:
  • COBRA notices: How should they be sent and documented so there won't be any doubt about compliance? Who has the responsibility for sending the notices?
  • Late notifications: What should you do when you're notified of a divorce, or that a college-age child is no longer a full-time student, months after the event?
  • Late or short premium payments: What should you do about COBRA premium payments that are regularly late or short?
  • Dates for notices: How can the termination date or other relevant date for COBRA notices be identified? How do employer-paid subsidies or extended coverage change the picture?
  • Missed notice dates: If you haven't sent a timely notice, what should you do?
  • Health FSAs: Do you have to offer COBRA for the health FSA?
  • FMLA: Does an employee who drops health coverage during FMLA leave have COBRA rights if he or she does not return to work?
