HSAs: Four Misconceptions That Can Undermine a Plan Training Seminar
One of the reasons people are so confused about Health Savings Accounts is that they're tricky. Yes, you could potentially cut your company's costs while meeting the needs of your employees. But you could also become roadkill on the HSA highway. Fact is, HSAs only save money if companies understand exactly how they work and implement them properly.
The devil is in the details.
Our speaker, veteran consultant Ben Graves, has come up with four key misconceptions that companies have about HSAs, and that can lead to disappointing results. He'll cover those misconceptions, show you how to avoid the pitfalls of HSAs, and give you a shot at implementing a plan that fulfills the promises we all heard when HSAs came into being in January of 2004. The key misconceptions companies have are:
- "My health benefits program s compatible with an HSA." Hear why many plans are not compatible, and why you may have set yourself up for failure, or at best breakeven on a plan that was supposed to save you big bucks.
- "My company controls the money in my employees' HSAs." Many companies are shocked to learn that's not true, even when the company put the money in the account.
- "Everyone can use an HSA under a cafeteria plan." Fact is, some can, some can 't.
All I need to do is set up a savings account and run my employees' medical expenses through it." Learn why setting up a HSA is not that simple.
This session will also answer the following questions:
- What are the implications of using HSAs along with High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP)?
- When do employers have to contribute?
- What's the effect on: FMLA, HIPAA, and ERISA?
- Will HSAs overtake traditional health benefit plans?
- What role will they play in the consumer-driven healthcare movement?
- How do HSAs compare to MSAs, HRAs, and Health FSAs?
- What are the key choices employers face in setting up HSAs, and what are the pros and cons of different arrangements
