This course presents an overview of HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), outlining the main components and identifying who is covered by the act. HIPAA offers patients the right to a copy of their medical records, to request amendments to them if necessary, and to know the history of disclosures. The course also explains their notification requirements and the penalties of noncompliance.
