This is the first course in a two part series that presents the learner with the fundamentals of telecommunications and gives a comprehensive introduction to analog and digital concepts. The course covers the history of telecommunications and looks at the structure of business systems (including station sets, PBX, key and hybrid systems, ISDN and broadband), Consumer Premises Equipment (CPE), and services (dedicated and switched). The course then covers analog signals, its history and associated variables. Additionally, digital systems, its advantages over analog, and including such aspects as Pulse Code Modulation, Time Division Multiplexing, optical standards and loop carriers are covered.
