Introduction to JavaScript - outline the origins and evolution of JavaScript. Fundamentals of JavaScript - understand the basics of JavaScript and be able to embed JavaScript code in HTML that will communicate with the user as well as detect browser types and act accordingly. User communication - develop JavaScript code that displays a pop-up window, captures user input, and opens additional browser windows. Browser detection - write JavaScript code that detects browser types and redirects users accordingly. Introducing DHTML - describe Dynamic HTML, discuss the technologies it includes, and describe the Document Object Model and its relationship to DHTML. Working with DHTML - write browser-specific code for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. Implementing DHTML - develop code that displays different graphical elements in Internet Explorer 5.5 and Navigator 4.75. XML and XHTML - describe the advantages of XML and XHTML and differentiate between them. Working with XML - describe how to create an XML document. Embedding applets - describe Java applets and explain how to embed them in web pages. HTTP servers, server-side technologies, and admin - identify various HTTP servers and explain their functions, discuss the use of ports for web servers and server administration, describe server-side technologies used to create dynamic content for web pages, and utilize a CGI-handling form. Creating a form to be handled with CGI - describe what CGIs are and create a form to be handled with CGI. Cookies - describe cookies and how they can be used to enhance a web site visit. Plugin technology - describe how to choose a plugin and how to add plugin content to a web site. Databases - understand how databases and database management systems function. Internet standards organizations - identify the major Internet governing and standards organizations and be able to explain their roles.
