Autodesk Maya provides a thorough introduction to Autodesk Maya's modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering capabilities. The courseware has been created to help new users make the most of this sophisticated application and to broaden the horizons of existing, self-taught users. The material covered in the courseware is designed specifically for professional designers who make up the majority of Autodesk Maya users and includes tutorials designed for professional designers in the game development, architectural, industrial/product design, and interior design industries.

Prerequisites
- Knowledge of OS X and basic computer navigation
- Experience with 3D modeling is recommended
- Introduction to Autodesk Maya class or equivalent experience
Course Outline
Note: The curricula below comprise activities typically covered in a class at this skill level. The instructor may, at his/her discretion, adjust the lesson plan to meet the needs of the class.
Day 1: Planning, Workflows, and Hard Surface Modeling
- Discussion of real time and cinematic rendering workflows and related planning and resources required
- Review of the Autodesk Maya interface and toolsets required for advanced modeling
- Hard Surface Modeling techniques for real time and cinematic playback applications
- Complex hard surface models using low and high polly strategies
Day 2: Organic Modeling, Textures and Architectural Projects
- Organic modeling of the human form, animals, and custom characters using high and low polly strategies
- Organic modeling of soft goods, cloth and furniture items using Maya’s nCloth and nDynamics
- UV unwrapping strategies for hard surface and organic models
- Class project: building an interior space to scale as a team for real time and cinematic rendering applications
Day 3: Advanced Texturing, Advanced UV Unwrapping and Lighting
- UV Unwrapping workflows and strategies for real time and cinematic rendering
- Using Multiple UV sets
- Texturing using accessory programs discussion and an introduction to Autodesk Mudbox
- Advances lighting models for products, interior and exterior spaces including Global illumination, Image Based Lighting, and Ambient Occlusion
- Advanced Mental Ray rendering engine tips and techniques (Maya 2016 and prior users)
- Using the Arnold rendering engine (Maya 2017 and later)
Day 4: Advanced Animation Techniques, Rigging for Animation, MEL, Dynamics Simulations
- Animation Fundamentals review, using Voice Over for Lip-sync and reference video for timing and performances
- Prop Rigging for animation
- Character Rigging, Character Setup and Character Animation
- An introduction to the MEL programing language
- Using Maya’s Dynamic Simulations to create realistic animations
Day 5: Batch Rendering, Compositing, and Final Output
- Using playlists and VO recordings to create a Leica Reel or animated storyboard
- Render Setup, Render Farms, 3rd party rendering services, and a discussion of all the maya compatible render engines
- Compositing strategies using Photoshop After Effects, Nuke or Autodesk Composite
- Final Grading and Output of shots for Editing and final Sound Design
- Making Sure VO playback is synchronized with our animation
Cancelling an Open Enrollment Registration
Cancellation policy:
If notice is given 15 or more calendar days before the start of a class, the student may receive a full refund less a $100 administrative fee. If notice is given less than 15 calendar days no rescheduling or efunds are permitted.
Rescheduling Policy
If notice Is given 15 or more calendar days before the start of the class a student may reschedule . A student can reschedule a class up to two (2) times. Additional reschedules will not be allowed.
No Shows if a student does not attend a scheduled session, there will be no refund or rescheduling permitted. Payment is forfeited. FMC reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment or in other circumstances. FMC will endeavor to give as much advance notice as possible of any change to the schedule. FMC shall not be responsible for any incidental or consequential loss arising whatsoever.
