This program focuses on cultural awareness in healthcare. In this program we will review the concept of cultural awareness in healthcare and demonstrate the need to bring cultural awareness into the American healthcare system. We will also examine the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards that the federal government has established, and show how they relate to similar standards of the Joint Commission. Lastly, we will present case studies illustrating ways nurses and other healthcare providers can take steps to integrate cultural awareness into their own practice.
