STATEMENT OF NEED Historically, pediatric pain has been undertreated, and even the idea that pediatric patients experience pain in the same way adults do has been challenged. It is critical that healthcare providers be able to evaluate pain in children and provide the means to alleviate it. Healthcare providers need to be aware of the two basic methodologies that can be used when treating pediatric pain: non-pharmacological and pharmacological, and differences in the techniques of working with pediatric patients compared to adult patients with respect to pain management.
