PowerPoint is a presentation design program created by Microsoft for making slideshows. Users can add text, images, sound and video to a slide, then create a series of them for use in place of physical visual aids for a presentation or lecture. In 2000, a major update to PowerPoint allowed users to create slideshows in a more non-linear, cinematic style, rather than the linear style of previous versions.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 brings a number of new features to the program, including a heavily updated interface and a move to the open standard XML file format. The ability to add graphics, animation, slide transitions and other multimedia was enhanced. In the 2007 edition, Microsoft also improved the ability to export and import data between Office products, allowing data from Excel to be input in PowerPoint or slideshows to easily be inserted into an email in Outlook.
