PIHRA, the Professionals in Human Resources Association, was originally founded in 1944 to serve Los Angeles County as the Personnel and Industrial Relations Association (PIRA). PIHRA has since grown and now serves 17 chapters across 5 Californian counties for human resources professionals as the largest affiliate of SHRM. PIHRA is a membership-based organization where members pledge their support, adherence, and advocacy for the human resources profession, community, members, and the employees who benefit from the adherence to PIHRA’s ethical standards.

PHR Certifications require time and dedication to learning specific topics conducive with working as a HR professional. Professional-level human resource positions require individuals to have educational certifications in order to qualify for certain positions in HR. To obtain your PHR Certification, after completing the necessary coursework, you can apply and take an exam. PHR Certification applications start at $100 and PHR Certification exams start at $300, both depending on the HR professional-level you are testing for. HR training programs prepare individuals for a professional career in human resources. Companies are seeking experienced, certified HR professionals with an emphasis on experience. Earning your certificate, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree confirms your educational training, but actual experience is the key. At least one year of HR experience is needed if you have a master’s degree and two years of HR experience if you have a bachelor’s degree. According to SHRM.org, individuals who would like to obtain a SHRM certification will need to check the eligibility requirements first before signing up for training courses or the SHRM exam. Once you have determined your eligibility, you can sign up to take the SHRM exam for a member or nonmember price. If you sign up for the SHRM exam, you can select the early-bird exam for $300 USD (SHRM member) or $400 USD (nonmember). If you plan to take the standard exam, it will cost $375 USD (SHRM member) or $475 USD (nonmember). There will also be a $50 USD application processing fee for members and nonmembers.
